The Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system. ITA works with employers, employees, industry, labour, training providers and government to issue credentials, support apprenticeships, fund programs, set program standards, and increase opportunities in the trades. The vision is to create a world class training and apprenticeship system for British Columbians. The mission for ITA is to build the trades that build British Columbia. As ITA expands to meet provincial industry training needs, the organization is seeking a multi-faceted individual to take on the leadership role of Chief Operating Officer.

The Province of British Columbia is truly at a pivotal time in its history as it works to meet the needs of a myriad of economic drivers including an expanding energy sector and dynamic construction industry, all while balancing an ever-changing demographic shift. With all this in mind, the Industry Training Authority is looking to find a respected and innovative senior operational leader in its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The COO will be charged with providing corporate leadership and direction for the operational efficiency of ITA with specific responsibilities for Program Standards & Assessment, Training Investment, Aboriginal Initiatives and Customer Experience & Industry Relations. The COO will also be accountable for strengthening the relationships with industry leaders, employers, learners, public and private training providers and government to ensure that the ITA fulfills the goals and objectives established by the Board.

A strategist at heart, the ideal candidate will bring a mix of experience gained in a senior or operations role in industry, professional services or the public sector. The COO will be a highly successful executive who is well known for his/her unparalleled skills in leading diverse teams, including proven abilities in operations, strategic planning, communication and interpersonal skills.

A spirit of collaboration and a proven leadership style that fosters teamwork and attains outstanding results will be foundations for success. The incumbent will have a proven track record in achieving significant change and exceptional critical reasoning skills. Navigating diverse stakeholder groups to find meaningful consensus and a love for what the trades sector does to enhance this province is key. Experience working within the British Columbia marketplace would be an asset.
