David Fleugel – Chief Constable for the Port Moody Police Department

PFM Executive Search recently completed a national search for the new Police Chief for the City of Port Moody and the Police Board has announced the selection of David Fleugel as Chief Constable effective April 1, 2017.

Chief Fleugel has 25 years of experience with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), including extensive experience in patrol, property crimes, major crimes, drug enforcement, leadership, and strategic planning. He will be leaving his current role as Superintendent and Officer in Charge with Ridge Meadows RCMP where he leads 122 police officers and 45 civilian support staff who provide police services for the cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

“On behalf of the Board, the City, and the community, I would like to welcome Chief Fleugel to the Port Moody Police Department,” said Mayor Mike Clay, chair of the Port Moody Police Board. “Chief Fleugel brings a tremendous amount of expertise and leadership experience to his new role as chief constable, and we look forward to working with him as he guides the department in their exceptional efforts to serve and protect our community.”

Before joining Ridge Meadows RCMP in 2011, Chief Fleugel acted as one of the first regional duty officers for the RCMP Lower Mainland District, and held the position of operations officer with Burnaby RCMP, the second largest RCMP detachment in Canada. He is committed to continuous learning and professional development. Chief Fleugel has a bachelor’s degree from Carleton University, as well as certificates in criminal justice from the University of Virginia and incident command system from the Justice Institute of British Columbia. He is also a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Chief Fleugel succeeds Chief Constable Chris Rattenbury, who is retiring after more than 26 years with the Port Moody Police Department.
