British Columbia Dental Association
Chief Executive Officer
Established in 1998, the British Columbia Dental Association (BCDA) is the recognized voice of dentistry in BC, dedicated to serving the interests of its members and promoting oral health for all British Columbians. BCDA is governed by an all-dentist board, comprised of 17 members, who are supported by the CEO and 20 full and part-time staff. The organization’s mandate is to serve, represent, and advocate for its members – the dentists of BC. It does this through the provision of programs, services, and support. Through collaboration and partnerships, BCDA members also receive advocacy support and practice services provided by the Canadian Dental Association and other dental organizations and suppliers.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides leadership to the Association by managing and meeting the needs and demands of the voluntary membership group, building the brand, enhancing the level of advocacy for the profession, and being an expert contributor in the public debate on all issues that affect members. Reporting to the Board and accountable for the overall planning, leadership, management, and results of the Association, the CEO promotes industry awareness of mandates and goals and is a strong advocate of the profession. Key to their role will be developing effective relationships with government officials and establishing alliances with other similar associations and key stakeholders in the industry.
As the principal advisor to the Board of Directors in matters relating to the Association’s administrative, operating, and program functions, as well as policy formulation and strategic planning, the CEO will regularly review and report BCDA’s success and progress toward achieving its mandate and reaching the goals established by the Board, thereby demonstrating BCDA’s value proposition to its members and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with experience running all aspects of an organization and an understanding of the unique nature of a not-for-profit member-based association, and has worked closely with Boards of Directors to guide strategy development and set priorities. They have a proven track record of working with government and key partners and stakeholder groups to further a mandate, and have solid and responsive networks amongst legislative and policy decision makers. The CEO is recognised as a credible, influential, and reliable professional, and is willing to speak out and advocate on behalf of a voluntary membership group’s best interests. Experience in the healthcare sector and prior knowledge of the dentistry profession would be an asset, and a passion for supporting members and delivering exceptional service is a must.
The British Columbia Dental Association office is located on the homelands of the Coast Salish peoples: the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. BCDA gratefully acknowledges that BC dentists live and work on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral homelands of Indigenous Peoples and Nations across BC.
