Canucks Autism Network (CAN) provides year-round sports and recreation programs to individuals and families living with autism, while increasing awareness and providing training in communities across British Columbia. Its highly supported programs empower individuals with autism to build the confidence and skills necessary to enjoy a lifetime of sport and physical activity. CAN was founded in 2008 by Vancouver Canucks Co-owners, Paolo and Clara Aquilini and the organization is highly regarded for the scope of work it undertakes and positive impact it has on thousands of people.
Often people talk about making a difference. As the new CEO of the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) you literally will change people’s lives for the better through leadership focused on programs, training and awareness.
CAN strives to create more inclusive environments where individuals and families living with autism can feel understood, accepted, and supported in a range of community activities and spaces. It reaches this goal by providing training and building accessibility resources for many sectors, including sport, first responders, schools, and a range of other community spaces. It empowers individuals with autism to build the confidence and skills necessary to enjoy a lifetime of sport and physical activity.
As CEO you will lead a dedicated staff team and work with a highly engaged volunteer board, donors and key partner groups to deliver on the mission of the “I CAN” philosophy of believing in every individual’s ability and to encourage the development of self-confidence, self-esteem and a sense of purpose in play, work and life. A key partner group is the NHL Vancouver Canucks and the ownership group of the team where the CEO is able to leverage connections to support the goals of CAN throughout British Columbia.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and passionate leader who understands the not-for-profit world and who will take CAN to the next level through its continued growth and program delivery. A person who brings specific expertise in growing an organization through an empowering plus collaborative work style, has a broad vision and delivers on strategic objectives. A leader who is the professional face of CAN, who is comfortable working with a wide cross section of stakeholders and potential funders plus a demonstrated passion for the work being done by looking at unique and big picture ideas to make the organization even better.
