With a focus on engagement, strategy and best practices in human resources, the City of Burnaby is seeking a new Director of People & Culture who brings a passion for supporting people to thrive in the workplace in a public service environment. As a dynamic leader reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director will be tasked with inspiring and mentoring a dedicated group of staff as they strive for excellence, and will be responsible for developing a people strategy that supports the City’s distinct employee experience. This role advises leaders across the City on strategic and operational activities and helps guide key people decisions, serving as a partner for human resources strategies and functions including talent strategies; recruitment; performance management; HR operations; labour relations; equity, diversity and inclusion; and health and well-being. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director will need to be a thoughtful contributor to the City’s overall organizational strategy and visioning.

As the ideal candidate, you are a resilient individual who looks to elevate organizations to reach their full potential through strategic and innovative human resource practices. You possess solid engagement and leadership skills and have showcased this within a complex, service-oriented organization. Focused on optimizing People & Culture’s role as a true business partner, you bring a collaborative approach to working within a unionized environment and provide meaningful solutions to individuals throughout an organization. A critical thinker who has demonstrated success building solid relationships with all levels of an organization, you are a dynamic voice at the senior leadership table and thrive in a multi-faceted environment. Your years of leadership experience providing advice and support to senior decision makers such as Boards, Councils and Committees is augmented by a relevant degree. You are also a proven leader of people and have the ability to influence policy, programs and practices in a variety of areas due to your ability to understand unique businesses and their people needs.
