As the senior staff person at the City of Vancouver, The City Manager works with Mayor and Council to implement and operationalize their vision for the City, and to provide sound advice and support in the development of policy. The City Manager works with the City’s Leadership Team to deliver on Council priorities and move key agenda items forward. The City Manager works closely with all levels of government and First Nations leadership, as well as other organizations and agencies, in order to address issues of a multi-jurisdictional nature, and to position the City to take advantage of new opportunities and programs as they emerge.

As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic systems thinker with a blend of excellent relationship building qualities, leadership skills, fiscal acumen and a commitment to best practice in public administration and service delivery. You have had responsibility for providing effective leadership in a large, complex organization, preferably in a municipal or other level of government, and you have a proven ability to enable a team toward results. You bring experience driving innovation, process improvement, promoting a culture of Organizational Safety, and moving agendas forward in a multi-partner environment, and your values align with those of the City. You have a demonstrated commitment and ability to effect action in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion, with that perspective guiding decision making, and you also recognize a city’s obligations as they pertain to achieving reconciliation with indigenous partners, communities and people.  In addition, you have a successful track record of establishing partnerships which lead to stronger results for all parties. Your experience is ideally augmented by a Masters of Public Administration or similar.
