Deputy City Manager

Reporting to the City Manager, the Deputy City Manager will lead a number of the City’s departments, initiatives, and activities, ensuring Council’s priorities are moving forward. The Deputy City Manager will support the City Manager to foster an organizational culture that values diverse experience and perspectives, to build alignment across the team, and to integrate the City’s approach to strategic issues. The Deputy will help to balance the needs and objectives of the City’s ongoing work plans while also addressing emerging and urgent issues. The Deputy will also work closely with other levels of government and partners, in order to leverage existing opportunities as well as to position the City to take advantage of new opportunities and programs as they emerge.
As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic systems thinker with a blend of leadership skills, excellent relationship building qualities, and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion as well as best practice in public administration and service delivery to citizens. You are a trusted advisor who has had responsibility for providing effective leadership in a large, complex organization, preferably in a municipal or other level of government, and have a proven ability to enable a team toward results. You are known for your ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with elected officials, employees and external partners and you have an ability to bring together a wide range of experiences, perspectives and opinions within an organizational context as well as a decision-making context. You bring experience moving agendas forward in a multi-partner environment and are able to take on a range of operational, policy and high-profile activities as needs arise.
