Director, Sustainable Planning & Community Development

With a mandate to find innovative and unique solutions to Victoria’s acute housing crisis, the Director, Sustainable Planning & Community Development plays a critical role in the continued evolution of Victoria, using creativity and collaborative approaches to support systemic change in the region. Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Director, Sustainable Planning & Community Development is a member of the City’s senior management team and is responsible for leading the strategic direction, performance outcomes, organizational development priorities, and policy and resource allocation decisions on matters pertaining to the social, economic and physical development of the City. The Director provides professional advice to Council and other City departments, defining land use and development policies appropriate to the City and the strategies for their implementation.

The incumbent has a reputation for being a nimble leader, working within a local government environment and can lead a diverse team and coach and mentor for future succession. The Director brings an exceptional track record of building relationships and achieving results in a multi-stakeholder environment, taking a systems view of issues. The Director’s years of experience in a local government setting are augmented by a professional planning designation and a sharp focus on initiatives supporting sustainable, multi-faceted housing and city-scape environments.
