Consumer Protection BC
Board Directors
Our offices are located on the traditional lands of the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen), hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (Hun’qumyi’num), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Secwepemctsín (Shuswap)-speaking Peoples and ancestors, and our work extends across the homelands of the Indigenous Peoples within what we now call British Columbia. We honour the many territorial keepers of the lands and waters where we work.
Consumer Protection BC is the regulator of a variety of sectors and specific types of consumer transactions in British Columbia. Our purpose is to license and inspect regulated businesses, respond to consumer inquiries, investigate alleged violations of consumer protection laws and educate consumers and businesses about their rights and responsibilities. Our vision is a province where all citizens of BC are empowered in their transactions as a result of rigorous and consistent business compliance and through the provision of information.
Consumer Protection BC’s Board of Directors is the strategic leader and fiduciary steward for the organization, setting the overall goals and broad general policies. The CEO is held responsible by the Board for achieving goals and the overall management of the organization. The Board of Directors monitors and evaluates the CEO’s progress towards meeting approved goals and compliance with Board policy. The board focuses on its broad strategic and monitoring roles and is not involved in the day-to-day operations of Consumer Protection BC. The Board functions through three standing committees: the Governance & Nominating Committee, the Human Resources & Compensation Committee and the Finance & Audit Committee.
Based on the current and future needs of the organization, the Governance & Nominating Committee is seeking two Directors to join the Board. The ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience.
Candidate One: A background in administrative law, proficiency in enterprise risk management, advanced experience serving on boards and a clear understanding of effective governance.
Candidate Two: A background in financial literacy, complemented by a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, enterprise risk management expertise, advanced experience serving on boards and a clear understanding of effective governance.
The ability to work effectively, collaboratively and collegially with fellow Board Members will be crucial for the success of both positions.
If you are interested in contributing to the success of an organization with an important and broadening mandate, possess strong board governance skills and have experience overseeing complex risk management matters and exposure to supporting equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, we would like to hear from you.
