Engineers and Geoscientists BC
Chief of Strategic Operations

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is the business name of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia. Engineers and Geoscientists BC regulates and governs these professions under the authority of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act. The association is charged with protecting the public interest by setting and maintaining high academic, experience, and professional practice standards for all 34,000 members. Individuals licensed by Engineers and Geoscientists BC are the only persons permitted by law to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscience projects in BC. The association is a not-for-profit organization governed by a council of elected members, licensees and government appointees.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is looking for a unique and talented individual to join their leadership team in the position of Chief of Strategic Operations(CSO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the role of CSO encompasses strategic corporate planning, member services, government relations, stakeholder engagement, communications and brand marketing. It is all about enhancing the wide array of relationships that make it possible for the association to meet its obligations of protecting the public interest, providing the highest quality standards and services to its members, and ensuring that the organization continues to achieve its strategic objectives.

Given the nature of this multi-dimensional position, the ideal candidate may come from a variety of career paths, but key characteristics will be the individual’s commitment and understanding of working within a professionally designated organization where collaboration, teamwork, respectfulness, trust and ethics are never compromised. This role will appeal to a senior leader likely operating within a regulatory environment or within an association that is connected to public regulation, or potentially with a Crown or Agency of government, where there is a high degree of outreach to stakeholders and partner groups. The CSO will be experienced in developing and implementing government relations strategies and working with senior elected and non-elected officials at all levels within the public sector. The CSO will also bring experience in strategic planning, best practices in stakeholder engagement, and knowledge of communications strategies that will help to create continued positive awareness of the work of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

An agile and forward-thinking individual with the proven ability to lead others and guide policy in conjunction with an engaged membership, will be successful in this position. An advanced degree is desired. P.Eng or P.Geo designation would be an asset but is not required.
