Director, Information Systems

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia regulates and governs the engineering and geoscience professions under the authority of the Professional Governance Act.

The organization is charged with setting robust standards for entry and enforcing high standards of professional and ethical practice in order to protect the public.Only individuals and firms licensed by Engineers and Geoscientists BC are permitted by law to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscience work in the province.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director, Information System (IS) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of software, technology, communication, and security services and ensuring these systems run effectively to deliver ongoing business value. The Director is further responsible for the effective and efficient implementation of new services that reduce costs and deliver benefits or added value by transforming business processes.

The Director is expected to be able to review, challenge, manage and mentor the plans and activities of all IS staff in order to ensure the highest quality of new and ongoing services are delivered in consultation with users. This requires experience in IT governance, architecture, development, infrastructure, operations, information management and user experience design practices into the software development cycle. Further, the Director must be able to partner with executives and leaders to assist them in envisioning how their business units can operate more effectively – extensive experience working in many different business environments and with many senior leaders is required. The incumbent in this role also assumes the duties and responsibilities of the organization’s Information Security Manager as defined in the Privacy Policy of the Board.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate is a senior technology professional with exceptional change management, facilitation and people leadership skills who has selected or developed best-solutioned systems and successfully integrated those with existing infrastructure in a highly regulated, complex organization. The Director is a sophisticated, strategic thinker who has a keen understanding of the critical role IS plays in the overall operation of a dynamic and multi-faceted organization. The Director possesses a supportive leadership approach with an ability to lead through influence, work collaboratively and with confidence, to balance the needs of diverse internal and sometimes, external partners.

Working in partnership with senior leaders throughout the organization, the Director will understand how to enable the business to meet current service demands while thinking innovatively about where the business is headed in the future. The incumbent will bring a reputation as a skillful listener and communicator, with audiences at all levels. Additionally, the Director has a track record of outstanding customer-service and relationship management, as well as a proven ability to develop, plan and deliver critical initiatives on time and on budget.
