Through the Greater Victoria Public Library’s programs, collections and services, we inspire our Library members to discover new ideas and information that will enlarge their world. We create opportunities that spark a fervor for lifelong learning, and we provide space and resources to enhance creativity, self-expression and community building.
Led by our Board of Directors and Executive team, GVPL provides services at 12 Library branches, on our website and out in the community to 380,000 residents in 10 municipalities in the Capital Regional District.
GVPL is recognized as a leader in the Library community. In 2019, GVPL won the prestigious John Cotton Dana Award celebrating outstanding public relations campaigns. Staff at all levels are regularly sought out to showcase the work of the Library locally, nationally and internationally.
The opportunity to elevate the people focus of a pivotal organization exists in the role of Director, People and Culture of the Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL). Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director, People and Culture is responsible for creating, implementing and promoting human resources programs that support a high-performance culture as well as corporate strategic goals, in alignment with the GVPL’s values, vision and mission. The Director, People & Culture will champion and deliver innovation around organizational development, workforce planning, training and development, compensation and benefits, and occupational health and safety. The position will foster a vibrant and diverse organizational culture that works diligently to support the priorities of GVPL.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director, People and Culture will ensure engagement, cross-functional relationship building, and that talent recruitment and retention are best in class.
As the ideal candidate, you are a dynamic human resources generalist with a true passion for the power effective human resources practices can have on operational excellence. You will bring the ability to contribute at a strategic level in support of Library goals and operations as a whole, while being able to effectively support and oversee the needs of the department. Your experience includes progressively senior roles within a complex, unionized, multi-collaborator environment, and a demonstrated commitment to service excellence in an operational environment. You have ideally worked with a Board of Directors and are an experienced leader of people. Your experience is preferably augmented by a degree in human resources management, and a CHRP designation would be an asset.
