Director, Indigenous Initiatives

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system. ITA works with employers, employees, industry, labour, training providers and government to issue credentials, support apprenticeships, fund programs, set program standards, and increase opportunities in the trades. The vision is to create a world class training and apprenticeship system for British Columbians. The mission for ITA is to build the trades that build British Columbia. A unique and impactful opportunity exists in the role of The Director, Indigenous Initiatives. Ensuring all the work ITA does has a focus on creating strategies and programs to increase the participation of, and ease access for Indigenous people in trades training throughout the Province, the Director is required to maintain strong relationships with BC Indigenous communities to develop new industry training programs.

The Director supports Indigenous Initiatives related to the work ITA does with training providers, industry, Indigenous organizations and provincial and federal levels of government. This position requires a strong background in program management, demonstrated abilities to create and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and experience acting at the senior level as an ambassador for the needs of Indigenous communities.

The new Director will be an energetic and dynamic leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and well-honed facilitation and problem solving abilities. A solid history of success in a service-delivery environment and experience working within or in close partnership with the Indigenous community will be keys to success. Additionally, you have a relevant degree complemented by progressive understanding of policy development, community programs and consensus building among stakeholders. A trades background and project management in a team environment would be considered assets.
