It provides services through a network of hospitals, clinics, centres, health units and residential facilities with more than 18,000 health care professionals, technicians, and support staff delivering excellent care and services.
One of Canada’s most progressive health authorities seeks an equally innovative and bold CEO to deliver on the mission and vision of Island Health based in Victoria on Vancouver Island.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and managing an annual Operating Budget in excess of $2 billion, the CEO has responsibility for the overall planning, implementation and effectiveness of a broad range of health services aligned to the core purpose of delivering superior end to end care through innovation, teaching and research with a premium commitment to quality and safety — creating healthier, stronger communities and a better quality of life for those who Island Health serves over a broad geographic region on the west coast of Canada.
Building on the successes of the past, working collaboratively with key stakeholders and partner groups today, and focusing on the changing landscape of healthcare practices required in the future, the CEO will be a true leader who embraces diverse viewpoints, fosters a culture of engagement with staff and communities at all levels, is focused on patient outcomes and understands program and fiscal accountabilities. Additionally, the CEO will work closely with the British Columbia Ministry of Health which has presented the strategic plan for British Columbia’s health system and the strategic and operational priorities for the delivery of health services across the province.
The successful candidate will bring a proven passion and drive to deliver excellence in healthcare along with a well-known strength of character that develops trust and respect from professional colleagues, community leaders, citizens and patients. This is an action oriented position that requires experience in a healthcare environment at a most senior operating level along with qualities of inclusiveness and decisiveness. A record of success in being an inspirational leader who personally engages on multi-faceted issues, can affect positive change through adept and timely decision-making and embraces a collegial and respectful work environment is what is required as the new CEO of Island Health.
