Established 1981, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, has four campuses located in the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia. KPU offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations in more than 120 programs. Almost 20,000 students annually attend courses at KPU campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale.

The Faculty of Trades & Technology located at KPU Tech reflects Kwantlen’ s commitment to the economic development in the South Fraser region and educational programs that will provide industry with the competent and highly-skilled graduates it requires. KPU Tech provides leading-edge trades programs and is home to technology programs in Public Safety Communications (9-1-1). Through CE and Professional Studies a variety of Industry Service Programs are supported and delivered.
Reporting to the Provost & Vice President Academic, the Dean of Trades and Technology will provide leadership to all aspects of the Faculty including strategic planning, academic development and the management of finance and administration as well as human resources. The Dean will be a champion for the Faculty of Trades and Technology within the Kwantlen community and builder of strong relationships with government, industry and the broader community to ensure a flourishing and sustainable future for this unique and valuable training entity.
KPU is seeking an exceptional individual with an exemplary record as an educator and administrator within a dynamic post-secondary environment. As an accomplished academic, the ideal candidate will bring a breadth of experience and appreciation for the myriad disciplines of trades and technology. Alternatively, the incumbent may have a combination of post-secondary and industry leadership experience.
With a positive, enthusiastic and collaborative leadership style, the Dean will work in conjunction with other administrators, faculty and staff to achieve the goals of the Faculty of Trades and Technology. The preferred candidate will have a significant understanding of budget management and strong organizational skills. The Dean will possess a strong track record in the recruitment, engagement and retention of students and demonstrate an appreciation for the role of a student focused institution.
The ideal candidate must have a fundamental understanding of the B.C. Education System, Industry Training Authority (ITA) and how to enhance skills training, technologies and apprenticeships. With demonstrated experience working in a unionized environment, the incumbent’s exemplary communication and interpersonal skills have developed positive and collaborative working relationships and have built capacity cross functionally. A trade’s qualification with IP/Red Seal qualification and/or a terminal credential preferably in a technology related field is considered an asset.
