New Westminster Schools has a rich tapestry of cultures, backgrounds, and needs. The District is a caring, inclusive, and committed learning community dedicated to supporting each unique learner so they will have the skills and competencies they need to be productive and successful citizens in a rapidly changing world. Located in the historic heart of Greater Vancouver and on the traditional territory of the Qayqayt First Nation and Coast Salish Peoples, New Westminster Schools is a growing urban District that meets the needs of learners through a variety of programs, such as International Baccalaureate, Montessori, French Immersion, and more.
As the leader of the New Westminster School District, you are responsible to the Board of Education for enhancing student learning by ensuring the District continuously strives for excellence and innovation in education. You will work with the educational leadership team to facilitate collaboration at all levels and encourage innovation inside and outside the classroom. You will work with partner groups and community to ensure New Westminster Schools is meeting the unique needs of all of its diverse learners, and will anticipate the learning needs of a growing and changing community. You will also work closely with the Secretary-Treasurer and Board of Education to ensure student success is facilitated through the effective and prudent stewardship of resources and facilities.
As the ideal candidate, you are a proven and seasoned leader who is ready to take an excellent District with a strong foundation and make it extraordinary. You are a consummate problem solver and collaborator, ready to lead the District through the challenges ahead while ensuring New Westminster provides a variety of opportunities for student achievement. The New Westminster School District enjoys excellent relationships with its partner groups and is committed to consultation and collaboration with its partners. The new Superintendent will be one who values those relationships and ensures that these parties’ voices are heard and addressed. An ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board of Trustees is vital to the success of the new superintendent in order to navigate forward given the changing educational landscape and fiscal realities of the public education sector.
