Chief Operating Officer

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is responsible for the design and delivery of territorial health and social services across the Northwest Territories. It covers 1.2 million square kilometers and serves approximately 43,000 people, including First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and non-indigenous people. Services include a full range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services, and social services including family services, protection services, care placements, mental health, addictions, and developmental activities, delivered by more than 1,400 NTHSSA staff. The Yellowknife Region provides comprehensive health and social programs and services to residents of Yellowknife, Dettah, Ndilo, Lutsel K'e and Fort Resolution.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is accountable for providing strategic leadership to Yellowknife Region (YR). This includes primary oversight for program and service delivery and strategy implementation in the YR.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Yellowknife Region COO will collaborate on the integration of health and social services programs throughout the Northwest Territories to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. This includes contributing to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the overall health and social services strategy for the NTHSSA, and playing a leading role in the development of a territorial strategy that sets expectations for quality, efficiency, and consistency in the delivery of all health, continuing care, and social services delivered within the NWT. Collectively, the executive leadership champions the development of an organizational culture of quality, safety, inquiry and patient/client focus.

As the ideal candidate, you are a highly successful healthcare or social services executive who is well known for your strategic skills in leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, including proven abilities in operations, planning, communication and interpersonal skills. You bring a leadership style that fosters teamwork and attains outstanding results, while also promoting cultural safety and sensitivity in delivering care to a diverse and highly indigenous population.

You have a proven track record in integrating and operationalizing significant change. You have exceptional critical reasoning skills, and the ability to make difficult decisions by employing an evidence-based approach. A strong level of collaboration with community, government and other healthcare and social services partners have been key to your success. A clinical background would be seen as an asset. Your experience is ideally augmented by a Masters Degree in a related discipline and at least seven years of senior leadership experience.
