Resident Doctors of BC
Executive Director

Resident Doctors of BC is the professional association that represents over 1300 resident doctors working all across BC. The organization supports residents in fulfilling their education to become well-informed, prepared, and professional physicians to enhance patient care, and its purpose more broadly is to support the interests of resident doctors in British Columbia by raising awareness about who resident doctors are and what they do and by collaborating with other partners on behalf of its members. It is a trade union certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain collectively on behalf of residents in the province.

‘We take care of resident doctors, so they can take care of you’.

A truly meaningful opportunity exists to lead an organization that’s of critical value to all British Columbians. Resident Doctors of BC (RDBC) is seeking a dynamic individual who is passionate about healthcare, resident doctors, and the strategic mission of the organization. As the chief representative and strategic leader, the Executive Director will advocate on behalf of the membership while bringing a collaborative and energetic approach to government and stakeholder relations.

Responsible for all operations and communications, the Executive Director provides leadership and support to advance the vision, mission, strategy, and values of RDBC. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages the needs and demands of the membership group by enhancing the level of advocacy for the profession and sector, leading contract/labour negotiations, and representing RDBC in all interactions with external partners like UBC and the Ministry of Health. The ED promotes awareness of mandates and goals and is a strong advocate for the profession. They develop effective and mutually beneficial relationships with government officials, other similar provincial associations, and key external partners within the industry. The ED works closely and collaboratively with the Board to guide strategy for the organization, providing institutional knowledge and context for new and returning Board members, and effectively leads a small team of staff to manage the office and ensure operational priorities and objectives are being met.

The successful candidate will understand the gravity of the organization’s ability to assist in the training of healthcare professionals and bring a proven track record of teamwork and partnership. Collaborative, a community builder, and strong administratively, the Executive Director will be viewed as a trusted advisor to the Board and will be an effective advocate with the membership’s best interest at their core. They will have worked closely with Boards of Directors to guide strategy development and set priorities, and will be an empowering senior leader dedicated to instilling best-practices within the organization.
