Richmond School District (SD38) is a vibrant learning community that fosters students’ engagement, creativity, and well-being in inclusive learning environments. With over 20,000 students, in 37 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools and other educational settings, Richmond schools provide instruction based on provincial curriculum and assessment requirements. They also offer a variety of programs within their schools ranging from French Immersion and Montessori to International Baccalaureate. The Richmond School District lies within the boundaries of the City of Richmond located on an island at the mouth of the Fraser River. The community’s shared history began thousands of years ago as a place where the First Peoples gathered and lived. Today Richmond is a community of over 200,000 people who have chosen to live here from all over the world. They are situated on the traditional and unceded territory of the peoples of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language group.
An outstanding career opportunity exists for a senior leader in the K-12 sector who is ready to take on a unique challenge in one of British Columbia’s most successful and diverse school districts. The Superintendent is responsible to the Board of Education for student learning by ensuring the district continuously strives for excellence in education. The Superintendent works with the senior leadership team to facilitate collaboration at all levels and encourages advancement inside and outside the classroom. They work with stakeholder groups and community to ensure Richmond schools are meeting the unique needs of all of its diverse learners, and anticipates and responds to the learning needs of an evolving community. In addition, the Superintendent plays a key role in advising the Board and recommending actions to address current and emerging issues.

The new Superintendent will be one who values those relationships and ensures that these parties’ voices are heard and addressed. An ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board of Education is vital to the success of the new Superintendent in order to navigate forward given the changing educational landscape and fiscal realities of the public education sector. Your experience is augmented by a Masters Degree in Education, and you must be eligible for membership in the BC College of Teachers.
