St. Michael's Centre
Chief Executive Officer
Established in 1981, St. Michael’s Centre (SMC) is a non-profit, faith-based care home and hospice that has served the community for over 45 years. It was founded through a collaborative partnership between the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver and the United Church of Canada’s Vancouver Regional Council. While rooted in its founding Christian sponsorships, St. Michael’s welcomes all religious and spiritual traditions and is supported by a dedicated, long-term staff committed to providing exceptional care for families across Metro Vancouver.
This is a rare opportunity for a visionary leader to steward a cherished community legacy while shaping the future of compassionate, holistic care. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and organizational stewardship for St. Michael’s Centre’s (SMC) 128-bed long-term care home and 16-bed hospice. Aligned with SMC’s Christian faith-based mission, vision, and values, the CEO ensures all programs reflect a commitment to compassion, respect for the human spirit, and exceptional clinical and spiritual care.
The CEO translates Board directives into actionable priorities, ensuring effective implementation and fiscal responsibility throughout the organization. As a champion of a thriving care community, the CEO fosters a high-performing leadership team and nurtures a psychologically safe, person-centered workplace. This role is responsible for the overall administration of clinical programs, hospitality, and support services—ensuring strict adherence to the BC Residential Care Regulations and long-term sustainability.
As the primary representative of SMC, the CEO builds trusted relationships with external partners, including the Fraser Health Authority (FHA), community leaders, and the Anglican, Roman Catholic, and United Church sponsors. Ultimately, the CEO models leadership excellence to ensure SMC remains a welcoming and inclusive environment for residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
The incoming CEO must be an exceptional leader who combines an understanding of community development with business effectiveness. Insight into running all aspects of a business is vital, as is an understanding of the unique nature of not-for-profit societies and SMC’s long-standing history of service in Burnaby. The CEO must thrive in a complex, dynamic environment and be able to relate to a wide range of individuals, honoring all religious and spiritual traditions within a diverse care community. Experience with and/or the ability to lead capital rejuvenation in the near future, alongside demonstrated abilities in organizational advancement and the effective stewardship of resources are required to ensure the delivery of exceptional clinical and spiritual care across SMC’s 128-bed long-term care home and 16-bed hospice.
The targeted salary range for this position is $160,000 – $185,000 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
