A dynamic and truly multi-faced role exists at one of the world’s premier post-secondary institutions. As UBC continues to deliver on its mandate of academic excellence, the Institution is seeking a progressive financial-thought leader to take on the role of Treasurer.
The University Treasurer will lead Treasury Operations, Tax, and Strategic Financial Projects. Accountable to the Vice-President, Finance and Operations, the Treasurer will provide strategic direction and leadership to support financial liquidity, capital financing, corporate borrowing, cash management, tax, leases, strategic financial projects and revenue accounting. The incumbent will represent the University on numerous Boards and committees including UBC Investment Management Trust and UBC Properties Investments Ltd. The Treasurer will work in partnership with the UBC Executive in supporting the attainment of UBC's academic mission.
The scope and responsibility for this position encompasses accountability for the safeguarding and leveraging of the University's $6.0 billion of assets. In addition, the Treasurer will ensure formulation of strategic plans for the University in the areas of cash and debt management, business contract management and long-term plans related to the University's external borrowing.
The chosen candidate will be a senior corporate finance professional with substantial, proven leadership experience preferably within a large, complex, multi-functional organization. With a post-graduate degree in business or economics, or an accounting designation, the Treasurer will be a strong influencer and collaborator, bringing superior technical knowledge in financial modeling, forecasting and capital structure. The ability to build trust amongst a diverse group of stakeholders will be paramount to success in the role. A measured and thoughtful approach will be hallmarks of an ideal candidate who values creativity, collaboration and strong ethics-based decision making.
