Vancouver Art Gallery
Capital Project Director

The Vancouver Art Gallery (the “Gallery”) believes that art galleries are uniquely positioned to engage people in a better world. Galleries provide the resources, opportunities, and contexts to face challenges with purpose, playfulness, and creativity. The Gallery is motivated by the belief that creativity is fundamental to an open and engaged world.

The Gallery is a not-for-profit charitable organization incorporated under the B.C. Societies Act. The Gallery is supported by its members, individual donors, corporate funders, foundations, the City of Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia through the BC Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage.

A truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity exists to help shape the next iconic landmark and cultural hub in Vancouver. The Capital Project Director (CPD) oversees the planning, coordination and management of the Vancouver Art Gallery capital building project, The Chan Centre for the Visual Arts, including managing the transition from pre-construction to construction and post-construction (commissioning) phases up to and including the opening of the new Vancouver Art Gallery. The work involves complex construction project administrative leadership including contract preparation, evaluation and administration; process development and management; budget preparation and monitoring; scheduling; design oversight and coordination; negotiation and conflict resolution; and oversight and preparation of all project documentation.

The ideal candidate brings significant experience in construction project management within the commercial construction industry. A proven track record of end-to-end delivery of these projects and a demonstrable understanding of all aspects of design and construction are requisite skills necessary to be successful in the position. In addition, the chosen individual will be a dynamic and effective leader and communicator, open and approachable in style, and conscious of upholding the highest standards of professional integrity personally and within their team.

The Vancouver Art Gallery commits to providing equitable access to everyone. We actively support accessibility, anti-racism, LGBTQ2S+ inclusion and encourage diversity in our staff, visitors, volunteers, and programming. We cultivate a safer space where all voices are heard, valued, and represented. The Gallery stands against hatred, discrimination, racism, homophobia, and transphobia.
