Vancouver Art Gallery
Chief Financial Officer

The Vancouver Art Gallery believes that creativity is fundamental to an open and engaged world. Galleries and art museums provide their visitors the resources, opportunities, and context to heighten their own creative problem-solving skills and embrace life’s challenges with purpose, playfulness, and creativity. The Gallery is an independent not-for-profit charitable organization incorporated under the B.C. Societies Act. The Gallery is supported by its members, individual donors, corporate funders, foundations, the City of Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada. Approximately 20% of gallery funds are derived from government sources, with the balance coming from earned and contributed revenue. The Gallery has approximately 160 employees, the majority belonging to CUPE 15, and over 300 active volunteers.

The Vancouver Art Gallery is at an exciting point of its evolution, with a new state-of-the-art building being constructed to support its ability to showcase renowned collections and support innovative artistic expressions. A critical leadership role has become available to support this change and stewardship. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior leadership team and works across the organization to create and carry out core strategic work and key initiatives as laid out in the Vancouver Art Gallery’s strategic plan. The CFO is a visionary and progressive leader who is
responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance to the Finance and IT departments. This individual will ensure that the Vancouver Art Gallery is well positioned to support its capital build and subsequent growth plans and provides financial leadership to the Vancouver Art Gallery Foundation in order to identify the best ways to use the Foundation’s assets in supporting the Gallery’s mission. The CFO provides counsel to the organization and Board on financial performance, capital investment, contract management, risk management and provides technology and business innovation leadership.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, innovative and dynamic senior finance leader. An empathetic and strategic professional who seeks out opportunities while working in partnership with the CEO and leadership team. The selected individual will bring experience working effectively within a complex environment, ideally with exposure to large corporate and high net worth donors, a wide range of funding needs and complex interactions with key external partners. Experience in large capital construction projects would be an asset. Beyond the requisite technical financial skills and abilities, the ideal candidate is able to operate at both a strategic and operational level, identifying critical priorities and providing financial advice and counsel to the entire organization, including Board and other associated entities.
