Regional Director, Strategic Financial Planning

With a budget of over $4 billion, and over 20,000 staff, and 3000 active volunteers, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) provides services along the full continuum of care to 1.25 million residents of British Columbia’s south coast region. VCH has a purpose of coming together as one collective team to deliver an exceptional care experience for all, and those experiences include everything from acute, primary and community care, to mental health and substance abuse support, to long-term and home care and assisted living. In addition, more than 900 principal investigators conduct clinical and discovery research at VCH Research Institute, and VCH has a close partnership with the University of British Columbia and its Faculty of Medicine.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Controller and Financial Services, the Regional Director, Strategic Financial Planning leads in the development, planning and coordination of the health authority’s overall financial operating budget and multi-year financial plans, including overseeing the financial planning teams across the Communities of Care (CoC’s) and regional programs/services. The Regional Director provides health authority-wide leadership to: support strategic projects and initiatives, oversee Vancouver Coastal Health’s (VCH) financial performance management initiatives, and represent VCH Finance at regional and provincial tables to advance the health authority’s strategic priorities and mandate on behalf of the Executive Director.

As a member of the senior VCH Finance leadership team, the Regional Director plans, implements and evaluates related resources in support of the strategic and operational needs of VCH, as well as informs the development of the strategies and goals to ensure the optimum delivery of appropriate financial services for VCH. Key partnerships include senior executive leaders and leaders across VCH as well as representatives from other Health Authorities, Health Shared Services BC/PHSA, and provincial government ministries to understand directives, and support in policy revision and development. The incoming Regional Director represents VCH and its entities’ interests in discussions and/or negotiations with government, other external organizations and agencies providing or requiring support services from the organization.

The ideal candidate will be a proven business partner and trusted advisor and brings progressive leadership experience in the area of financial planning and business operations support in a complex environment that has multiple business lines and/or programs/services. Experience with reporting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis are key. Healthcare experience is not a requirement, but an asset. There must be a sincere interest and passion for healthcare.
