Information Technology is central to the University’s educational, student-centric, operational, and administrative mandates. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer & Vice-President, Administration, the role of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is to provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing strategic information technology initiatives. The CIO directs the planning and implementation of enterprise-wide IT systems in support of institutional operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and institutional development. They are responsible for all aspects of the University’s information technology and systems and have overall responsibility for educational and information technology, and for the delivery of reliable and responsive customer service to faculty, staff, students, and all other client groups at the University. Additionally the CIO works collaboratively to achieve an integrated and strategic enterprise-wide approach to VIU’s information resources, technology, and services by providing vision and leadership, and by advocating best practices that align with the University’s, vision, ambition, values, and commitments.

As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced technology leader who possesses a lifelong commitment to learning and the power of education, and who has a keen understanding of the role information technology plays in the effective operation of a large, complex organization. You possess a supportive leadership approach and the ability to lead in complex situations, working collaboratively and with confidence, to balance the needs of diverse partner groups and customers. You have a demonstrable reputation as a skillful listener and communicator, able to connect with audiences at all levels, and you are known for your ability to enable solutions that meet the goals of an enterprise. Additionally, you have a track record of providing outstanding client relationship management, as well as a proven ability to develop, plan, and deliver mission critical initiatives on time and on budget.
