Financial Controller

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Administration, the Financial Controller plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of the University. Working with the Assistant Controller and Finance Directors, the Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial data, compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial leadership. They will engage with University leadership and cross-departmental teams to define and implement institutional strategies designed to support the achievement of VIU’s goals, students, academic mission, and research.

The Financial Controller will effectively align with the mission, vision, and values of the University, and will thrive in a values-driven organization, working in partnership with a variety of constituent groups. They will bring many years of senior financial leadership and a proven track record of effectively working with diverse groups toward a shared vision. The successful individual will have demonstrated an ability to produce practical financial information which allows senior leaders to make informed decisions, and they are practiced at enabling new ideas through the effective allocation of resources. In addition, they will ideally bring experience in large capital planning and project implementation, and sound knowledge of how to create integrated people and systems plans into the overall operations of a large and complex institution.

The targeted salary range for this position is $130,738 – $180,728 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the min. and the max. and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for annual performance-based salary increases.
