Victoria International Airport
Director, Airside Operations and Safety
Victoria International Airport (YYJ), operated by Victoria Airport Authority, is the 10th busiest in Canada with almost 2 million passengers per year. Victoria is well served with more than 100 daily flights throughout North America. YYJ was rated among one of the top ten most loved airports by CNN Travel and was twice named best regional airport in North America by Airports Council International. More than a transportation centre, Victoria International Airport is also source of pride for residents in the region and an economic catalyst and business generator for southern Vancouver Island as a whole.
One of those ‘once in a career’ opportunities has become available at the Victoria International Airport (YYJ) with the position of Director, Airside Operations and Safety. This role reports to the Vice-President, Operations and has a broad range of accountabilities and objectives tied to leadership; airside/groundside maintenance and operations, regulatory compliance, emergency response, safety management system and the wildlife management plan to name a few. It is a multi-faceted role requiring a unique individual with the requisite skills and abilities to handle multiple projects and business operations, as well as proven supervisory and leadership experience of a diverse and committed team.
YYJ is seeking an individual who leads by example and motivates others and constantly identifies new methods and efficiencies without ever compromising airport safety. This position will appeal to a candidate who is truly a hands-on and engaged operations leader with a high energy level. A talented individual who knows the inner-workings of airside operations at an airport but is also capable in presenting detailed information in a boardroom setting. The new Director will be part of the team contributing to the continued capital expansion at YYJ and will work closely with internal staff and numerous stakeholders. It is a given the selected candidate be highly knowledgeable of emerging Transport Canada regulatory and policy changes and how such changes will affect YYJ’s on-going operations.
