David Sherwood – Vice President, Finance – BC Housing

PFM Executive Search is excited to announce that David Sherwood has accepted the role of Vice President of Finance with BC Housing, effective October 23rd.

David joins BC Housing most recently from the role of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA), the Crown agency responsible for the supervision and regulation of the financial services sector in the province.

Instrumental in transitioning the former Financial Institutions Commission (FICOM) to the current BCFSA, David developed the financial operating model and strategy, and led financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and operations. His portfolio also included the enterprise risk, facilities, and procurement teams, providing key services and support to operational and administrative teams across the business.

Prior to joining BCFSA, David held senior roles in BC Government and at DXC Advanced Solutions. His background includes leading business and technology teams at other Crown agencies and within the financial services sector.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Manchester, England and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Laura Kinderman – Dean, Faculty of Business & Professional Studies – Capilano University

PFM Executive Search is excited to announce that Laura Kinderman has accepted the role of Dean, Faculty of Business & Professional Studies with Capilano University, effective October 10th.

Laura joins CapU from Queen’s University, where she served in a variety of roles over the past 15 years, most recently as the Assistant Dean of Education Innovation and Online Programs in the Faculty of Law. With a varied teaching background, Laura has taught literature and writing, interprofessional education, teaching and learning in higher education, collaborative practice, and adult basic education. She has published in the areas of research ethics, program development, teaching awards, healthcare quality, and romantic literature. Her expertise as an educator, researcher and educational developer is complemented by the leadership roles she has held at Queen’s University in the Centre for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Law.

Laura will report to the VP Academic & Provost, and will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the Schools of Business, Legal Studies and Communications within the faculty.

Debbie Carter – Vice President, Finance & Administration for Capilano University

PFM Executive Search is excited to announce the appointment of Debbie Carter as the new Vice President, Finance & Administration for Capilano University! Debbie commenced her employment on October 5th, 2020.

Debbie has held numerous leadership positions in her career, including chief administration and chief financial officer roles. Debbie comes to CapU from the District of Oak Bay, where she served as the municipality’s director of financial services and acting chief administrative officer. Prior to this, Debbie was the executive director, corporate finance & chief financial officer for the Province of Alberta’s Ministry of Human Services. Her professional background includes extensive leadership experience in complex, multi-discipline and unionized environments where her oversight has included financial planning and forecasting; asset and risk management and strategic planning.

Debbie is a Chartered Professional Accountant and earned her Master of Business Administration at Laurentian University. Her professional development includes management and leadership studies at the University of Alberta; Emergency Operations Centre training with the Justice Institute of BC and procurement and contract management training through the Province of British Columbia.

Debbie has volunteered as a presenter for municipal fire services and the Government Finance Officers Association BC. Her community service also includes invigilating examinations for the Certified General Accountants Association, BC at the University of Victoria and a term on the board of the Local Government Management Association.  In the relief efforts for the Southern Alberta Floods of 2013, Debbie’s department was responsible for issuing $63.6 million in emergency relief funding to 37,000 impacted families.
