Marcia Turner – Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Education and Engagement – Vancouver Island University

Marcia brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, drawing from 25 years of working with a diverse range of organizations at the community, provincial, national, and international levels. Her career has included positions with public agencies, non-profit organizations, governments, and post-secondary institutions. In addition to her extensive administrative and post-secondary experience, Marcia brings a deep understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, as well as guiding Indigenous concepts into organizational systems. She believes in the transformative power of education and her values, stemming from the teachings of various elders and chiefs, include the importance of authenticity, honouring traditions, and respect for diversity. David Alexander – University Librarian – Vancouver Island University

David brings 12 years of exceptional, relevant experience from his service with the Royal BC Museum, where he most recently served as Acting Vice President of Collections and Research. In this role, he oversaw a broad portfolio including preservation of and access to the provincial museum, archives, and library collections; partnerships; Indigenous engagement and repatriation; research and registration; conservation; and digitization services. Dr. Andrew Deonarine – Medical Lead, Informatics – Northern Health

Prior to joining Northern Health, Andrew was the Clinical Data Scientist and Head of Data Engineering with a start-up organization in Cambridge, Massachusetts called XY.ai. Andrew has an impressive combination of clinical and informatics expertise, and his educational background includes degrees from prestigious institutions including Western University, the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard Medical School. Carmen Gonzalez – Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture – City of Delta

With an extensive background in the Federal Government and senior roles in multiple Lower Mainland municipalities, Ms. Gonzalez brings a reputation for strategic thinking, great corporate culture, and citizen-focused service delivery to the community. In her most recent role at the City of Abbotsford, Ms. Gonzalez successfully navigated the recreation and culture department through the pandemic and supported the departmental focus on positively impacting the community through high quality customer service.

Dave Jones – Chief Officer for Metro Vancouver Transit Police

PFM Executive Search is pleased to announce that Dave Jones has been selected as the new Chief Officer for the Metro Vancouver Transit Police. His appointment comes after a national search conducted by PFM, which brought forward a diverse slate of qualified candidates for consideration.

Chief Jones has deep roots in the community and a wealth of experience at local, provincial and national levels of police leadership. The Transit Police is a dynamic organization, operating in a growing region. We are confidant that Chief Jones will lead our organization from strength-to-strength, ensuring we stay at the forefront of public service and safety”, Police Board Chair Mark Reder said.

“With more than 30 years experience serving the New Westminster Police Department, we are pleased to welcome Chief Officer Dave Jones to the TransLink Enterprise, said TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “As we see everyday, the Transit Police provide an invaluable service to the public and Metro Vancouver is fortunate to have the only police force in Canada dedicated to serving our customers and employees along the transit system,” he continued. “We look forward to working with Chief Officer Jones and thank Interim Chief Barry Kross for his steadfast commitment to public safety and security and for continuing to be a transformational force behind the Transit Police.”

“I am extremely humbled, honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to lead the Metro Vancouver Transit Police as their new Chief Officer,” stated New Westminster Police Chief Constable Dave Jones. “I’d like to extend my thanks to Interim Chief Barry Kross for the great work he has done. I look forward to working hard to further Transit Police and TransLink’s commitment to safety for everyone who uses the transit system.”

Dave Jones has been a member of the New Westminster Police Department since 1986 and in that time has had an exemplary career. He has worked in many different areas of the Department and participated in numerous major projects, including the downtown initiative that dealt with an influx of crack cocaine dealers in the late 1990’s. Chief Jones was also integral in the creation of the Integrated Service Team (IST) model that is still in effect today that deals collectively with community and policing issues. He holds a B.A. of General Studies within a joint Simon Fraser University/Justice Institute of BC Leadership Development program.

He has received many commendations and awards, including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2013, he was presented the Member of the Order of Merit for the Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada.

Chief Jones will take over the role of Transit Police Chief Officer on April 1, 2019.
