BC Hydro
Senior Vice President, Safety & Chief Compliance Officer

BC Hydro is a Provincial Crown Corporation, owned by the government and people of British Columbia. Appreciating that clean, abundant electricity is key to BC’s economic prosperity and quality of life, its job is to safely provide its customers with reliable, affordable, and clean electricity throughout the province.

The organization is one of the largest energy suppliers in Canada, generating and delivering electricity to 95% of the population of BC and serving over four million people. It acts with integrity in all of its business relationships, through its continuing evolution in response to changes in climate, consumer demand, technology and BC’s commitment to Indigenous Nations.

We’re investing more than $2 billion per year in major capital infrastructure projects to help meet the growing demand for safe, reliable power. We’re upgrading transmission lines, building new substations, and investing in our hydroelectric generation facilities. We’re proud to be ranked as one of B. C.’s Top Employers and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers. Join us as we build an even cleaner B.C.

An incredible opportunity is available to be a part of one of the largest electric utilities in Canada and one of the most environmentally responsible organizations. Working collaboratively as part of the executive leadership team to lead the organization and reporting directly to the President & CEO, the SVP, Safety & Chief Compliance Officer for BC Hydro is responsible for leading a diverse portfolio with a team of talented employees to assure the safety and security of staff, assets, and operations. The SVP provides leadership, vision and strategic direction to a broad range of initiatives and issues across BC Hydro, our shareholder, stakeholders and First Nations. The incumbent liaises with the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC), WorkSafeBC, Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and other key partners. Additionally, the SVP develops and assures a risk- based, scalable Enterprise Compliance approach to assign compliance responsibilities within BC Hydro, to set requirements for those business units with regulatory obligations to satisfy their obligations and to ensure business unit compliance management processes are functioning effectively and sustainably.

As an ideal candidate, you will bring an impressive track record of implementing effective and progressive safety policies and procedures as well as a compliance focus in a large, geographically dispersed, complex, unionized environment. The incumbent will bring a resilient pursuit of continuous improvement, a process based and ease of operationalization mindset, and expert experience building strategic external partnerships with regulators and government entities. The SVP will also bring an authentic and honest communication style as well as their technical knowledge to all interactions with the team, the organization, and the communities BC Hydro touches.
