Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada. Together, CMHA identifies and responds toCanada’smost pressing mental health priorities. Since its establishment in 1952, CMHA’s BC division (CMHA BC) has advocated for changes to legislation and policy affecting people with a mental illness that ensured the availability of community alternatives, access to housing, and income supports. Through this work, CMHA BC has played an important role in the reform of the mental health care system in BC, and it is proud to be part of a network of CMHA branches in communities across BC whose grassroots involvement and direct services have touched the lives of countless British Columbians.

Due to recent growth, CMHA BC is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join the organization. Reporting to the Director, Labour Relations, the Health and Safety Manager champions an integrated health and safety strategy across CMHA BC. In this newly created position, the Manager addresses both physical safety and hygiene as well as mental and psychological health, ensuring a comprehensive approach that aligns with best practices and regulatory standards. The Manager oversees the development and maintenance of Joint Occupational and Psychological Health and Safety programs, along with disability management initiatives, fostering an inclusive and safe workplace for all employees. Key responsibilities include safety training and education, preventive actions, regulatory compliance in partnership with WorkSafeBC, and crisis management. Additionally, this role guides CMHA BC toward achieving Core Certification in health and safety, emphasizing a culture of health, wellness, safety, and continuous improvement across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings expertise in health and safety regulations, human rights considerations, and disability management, alongside a commitment to CMHA BC’s values, contributing to the organization’s vision of a Canada where mental health is a universal human right. With a solid background in implementing safety programs that address both physical and psychological well-being, the ideal candidate will excel in developing and integrating health and safety strategies that align with international standards. Skilled in navigating complex organizational landscapes, the candidate fosters an inclusive culture of safety, ensuring that both physical and mental well-being are prioritized within the workplace. Guided by strong collaboration and communication skills, the Health and Safety Manager exemplifies a hands-on, proactive approach, engaging with team members at all levels to build and sustain a safe working environment.

The targeted salary range for this position is $76,617 – $110,137 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
