Consumer Protection BC is the regulator of a variety of sectors and specific types of consumer transactions in British Columbia. Our purpose is to license and inspect regulated businesses, respond to consumer inquiries, investigate alleged violations of consumer protection laws and educate consumers and businesses about their rights and responsibilities. In the public interest and through the authority delegated by the Province of British Columbia, Consumer Protection BC is responsible for administering four Acts and a variety of regulations. Consumer Protection BC is a place where there is respect for all dimensions of diversity, such as age, gender, race, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, Indigenous status, gender expression/identity, education, religion and other dimensions that are intrinsic to who employees are.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for leading the organization through its continued development, ensuring a sustainable, value-added business model that has the capacity and flexibility to identify and take on new regulatory opportunities as required. The CEO oversees the effective and efficient management of the organization’s services and programs, maintains strong working relationships with the provincial government and is chief advisor to the Board and its committees. Working closely with a team of professionals, the CEO ensures that the organization remains innovative and is constantly looking for new ways to deliver value to interest holders.
The next CEO will be a visible, diplomatic and values-driven leader who thrives in an interest holder focused organization and brings experience navigating entrepreneurial, adaptive, and regulated environments. They will have a proven track record of elevating an organization’s public profile, strengthening its relevance, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Credible and trusted, the CEO will be a respected partner to government in fulfilling a consumer-protection mandate, while also earning the confidence of the private sector through a practical, solutions-oriented approach. A seasoned executive, they will bring enterprise-wide leadership experience, ideally complemented by an appreciation for the distinct dynamics of a not-for-profit business model. The CEO will exemplify Consumer Protection BC’s corporate values of curiosity, integrity and impact.
The salary range for this position starts at $256,000 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package which includes extended health benefits, life insurance and pension eligibility, among others.
