Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia regulates and governs the engineering and geoscience professions under the authority of the Professional Governance Act.

We are responsible for protecting the public interest by setting and maintaining high academic, experience, and professional practice standards for over 43,000 registrants and over 4,000 firm registrants. Only individuals and firms licensed by Engineers and Geoscientists BC are permitted by law to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscience projects in British Columbia.

We are a not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of elected registrants and government appointees. The Board is accountable to the public through the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, under the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance, for both the governance and management of the organization.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for ensuring that the organization is positioned to perform at a high level and respond effectively to the demands of its dynamic operating environment. This includes overseeing environmental scans to assess external factors and guiding the development and refinement of the organization’s long-term corporate strategies and short-term operating plans, in consultation with leadership and the Board. The COO aligns key internal resources to meet these demands while ensuring the organization’s overall strategic goals are achieved.

To accomplish these objectives, the COO directs the operational functions of the organization, including overseeing four departments including Communications and Engagement, Programs and Continuing Education, Corporate Governance and Strategy,  and Information Systems, and serves as the organization’s Privacy Head. The COO also oversees registrant engagement and accountability to the public, ensuring the organization’s actions align with the interests of the public, its registrants, and partners through strategy, engagement, and research.

The COO is responsible for overseeing corporate business maturity efforts, business resilience functions, and monitoring drivers of business performance. Additionally, the COO manages and sustains key strategic relationships, including with government, the public, industry, and other allies, ensuring that Engineers and Geoscientists BC remains responsive and aligned with the needs of those it serves.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who can successfully guide the organization through its next phase of growth and transformation, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and maintaining a focus on the core regulatory mandate. Naturally comfortable with ambiguity and with a proven ability to navigate change, they will foster collaboration across teams and lead the organization in adapting to evolving demands while building a culture of trust, engagement, and accountability.

An excellent communicator, the candidate will articulate the organization’s vision and priorities clearly and persuasively, ensuring alignment among diverse teams and external partners. They will bring demonstrated experience in overseeing key operational areas, such as information systems, governance, communications, program management, and government relations, ideally in a complex public sector or regulatory environment.

The targeted salary range for this position is $206,219 – $230,480 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
