Located on the southwest coast of British Columbia, the Port of Vancouver extends from Roberts Bank and the Fraser River up to and including Burrard Inlet. Its jurisdiction includes more than 16,000 hectares of water, more than 1,500 hectares of land and hundreds of kilometres of shoreline, bordering 16 municipalities and intersecting the traditional territories and treaty lands of more than 35 Coast Salish First Nations.  The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an arm’s-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands and waters that make up the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest port. Our mandate, as outlined in the Canada Marine Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives on behalf of all Canadians, ensuring goods are moved safely through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities.

A pivotal and transformative role exists at one of Canada’s most crucial, economic enablers. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is seeking a new Vice President, Government Relations and External Affairs, who will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction on all government, First Nations programs and external affairs activities. This position will play a key role in the strategic planning process by enhancing and protecting the image and reputation of the port authority with all levels of government and First Nations partners, industry, media and the public.

In order to lead this portfolio in a manner that supports the port authority’s strategic goals, the Vice President, Government Relations and External Affairs will be a forthright and transparent leader who values collaboration.  Possessing excellent communication and public speaking skills to effectively interface with all contacts including all levels of business, government and the public, the Vice President will represent the port authority as a dynamic organization prepared to seize opportunities as a world-class port.  They will bring a best-in-class customer service orientation while managing a diverse portfolio. The Vice President will also demonstrate effective decision-making and strategic planning, while fostering the development of these competencies in the port authority’s emerging leaders.
