Heidi Yang – Chief Executive Officer – Engineers and Geoscientists BC

PFM Executive Search is delighted to announce the appointment of Heidi Yang, P.Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon.) as the new Chief Executive Officer for Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Heidi commenced this new role on June 1, 2021.

Heidi has broad-based experience in the regulatory, forestry, and manufacturing sectors. Throughout her 26-year career, she has provided strategic leadership that has enabled her teams to implement effective systems to support innovative and sustainable operations—experience that will be an asset to Engineers and Geoscientists BC as it begins to implement new regulatory processes and obligations introduced by the Professional Governance Act.

Prior to joining Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Heidi led engineering operations—including research, project management, product engineering, manufacturing process engineering, and facilities and maintenance engineering—for one of the largest privately-owned window and door manufacturers in Canada. She also held several senior executive roles with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), including one year as their interim CEO, where she led a rigorous business planning process that enhanced APEGA’s ability to deliver on its regulatory mandate and strengthened internal operations. Prior to her time with APEGA, Heidi spent 20 years at Weyerhaeuser, providing leadership for the quality management, customer strategies, and operations processes at the Grande Prairie, Alberta plant.

Heidi graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. She is committed to lifelong learning, with recent certifications through the Executive Program at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University and Lean Six Sigma. She is also a dedicated volunteer who has held several academic and community board roles, including with the Glenora Rotary Club—the first rotary club in North America to be chartered by professional women.

Malcolm Berry – BC Children’s Hospital Foundation – President and CEO

PFM Executive Search is pleased to announce the appointment of Malcolm Berry as the new incoming President and CEO of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, effective March 2021.

Malcolm will be coming from St. Louis, Missouri, where he has been leading the Foundation at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for close to four years. During his time there he drove the Foundation’s strategy focused on rebuilding and growth, architecting their first fundraising campaign in over a decade, and growing the organization’s revenue by over 45%.

Prior to this, he spent over 10 years at SickKids Foundation in Toronto in many roles, most notably, as Vice President, Major Gifts, where he oversaw Major Gifts, Gift and Estate Planning, Stewardship and Donor Relations. He has also served in leadership roles with the Woodmark Group, a US/Canadian organization of premier children’s hospitals, as well as past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. His passion for philanthropy and its vital role in improving children’s health is evident.

Malcolm and his family, including his wife and two children, are originally from Toronto. Malcolm has a Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Business Administration from McMaster University.

Malcolm is excited to be returning to Canada to continue his personal mission of transforming child health outcomes through the advancement of philanthropy in his new role at BCCHF. Teri Nicholas, outgoing President and CEO, will continue in her role with the Foundation until Malcolm starts, and will support him through a transition period.

Dermot Strong – President – RSL

PFM Executive Search is delighted to announce the appointment of RSL‘s new President, Dermot Strong. He will officially begin his new role on January 18th.

Dermot’s appointment results from an extensive national search, which sought an accomplished leader who will build on RSL’s successful record as a high-performance organization in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team.

Having worked for two family-run businesses, Dermot brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. He has forty years of experience in manufacturing and distribution. Most recently, he held the President’s position at Motion Industries Canada Inc., a $600 million Industrial Distribution Company, for twenty-two years. He has led teams in Canada, Latin America, the United States, and southeast Asia. Dermot also serves on multiple boards in Vancouver as a Board Member.

Dermot recognizes our organization’s many strengths and will inspire, coach, and develop the next generation of leaders within RSL, ensuring they have all the leadership competencies, functional expertise, and business acumen to take over the business eventually.

Michael Atkins – Chief Executive Officer – CVAC

PFM Executive Search is excited to announce that Michael (Mike) Atkins has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Comox Valley Airport Authority (CVAC), effective January 4th, 2021. Mike will take over the duties of Alex Robertson, who has served as acting CEO since Fred Bigelow’s departure for medical leave in November of 2019. Mike is a former Commander at 19 Wing Comox, with established relationships with community stakeholders, making him ideally suited to take the lead at CVAC in the midst of ongoing recovery efforts.

Mike is excited to be joining the Comox Valley Airport Commission, having fallen in love with the Valley during his tenure as the Wing Commander. He brings significant team-building, leadership, crisis and strategic planning experience developed through multiple positions in Search and Rescue and higher headquarters during a 35-year military career. In addition to his command at 19 Wing, he is a former Commanding Officer of 413 Transport and Rescue Squadron, and most recently, the Canadian Defense Advisor to the United Kingdom. Mike’s professional education includes a Bachelor of Engineering (RMC), an MBA (Saint Mary’s) and an MDS(KCL). He and his wife Susan look forward to putting down roots in the beautiful Comox Valley.

Terry Lake – Chief Executive Officer for the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC

PFM Executive Search is thrilled to announce the appointment of Terry Lake as the new Chief Executive Officer for the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC! Terry will commence his employment on September 8, 2020.

Terry is well known for serving as British Columbia’s Minister of Health (2013-17) and as a two-term MLA representing Kamloops-North Thompson. In his years prior to serving at the B.C. Legislature, he was mayor of Kamloops. He has also taught at Thompson Rivers University in Animal Health Technology and in the School of Business and Economics. Before that he was a business owner, a practitioner of veterinary medicine, and a broadcaster.

“I am very excited to join BC Care Providers Association and EngAge BC as CEO,” says Lake. “BCCPA is an organization that I have worked with before, and I have watched it grow into an important force in B.C. and across Canada in the area of seniors health and housing. In particular during the pandemic, BCCPA has provided decisive leadership to help keep residents and staff in our care homes and independent living sites safe.”
